After rolling the dice and buying the Hiboy S2 electric scooter (a stand up e-scooter on Amazon that does 17+ mph with a 10 mile range) for $380 that I was surprisingly happy with- I decided I wanted another scooter to ride with friends and fam when they came over. Bear in mind that there are other electric scooters ranging from $200-$300 out there- I believe Razor and other companies makes some- but those are straight up kids toys. Slow , no range children’s toys. This Razor Eco Metro (at around $460+ when I purchased in August of 2020) and the Hiboy S2 ($380+ with their coupon) are about the cheapest “actual” E-scooters out there and are both well worth the extra $100 from the cheaper options.Assembly took only a few minutes. Plugged in the charger- the light was green but I let it charge for a few hours anyway. They recommend you let it charge for โ12 hoursโ out of the box.. So I did.Take it for the first ride. The motor makes a lot of noise when accelerating. Itโs not gas engine loud.. but compared to the virtually silent Hiboy- it’s loud.. Kind of sounds like an electric RC car- annoying sound it makes.Thereโs no light, bell, speedometer or battery percentage like other, less expensive and faster moving and charging e-scooters on amazon. And the low battery indicator only turns yellow and indicates a low battery when you are accelerating.. when you stop it goes back to green and doesn’t indicate a low battery.. can be misleading in terms of how much battery you have left. The included rack and basket are cool. And the wide deck is nice. This scooter may be your best option if you are going to be continually hauling around a few pounds of stuff with you. I could see this being nice for going back and forth to the beach with a cooler and chair or fishing supplies ect. I attach a small 4 wheelbarrow to the rack and tow stuff with this. The seat is adjustable and basically removable which is cool- but you canโt really comfortably use it as a stand up because you canโt raise the handlebars. This scooter handles pretty well and feels really comfortable to ride and steer. The brakes are nice and responsive so far.My biggest complaint would be that It feels slow. It does NOT go 18 mph. No way. The reviewers here saying it goes โover 20 mphโ are straight up lying. Yeah maybe if you are accelerating straight down a steep hill.. But on flat ground this maxes out at 16 mph if even that. And on a slightly steep incline, expect to slow to a 5-10 mph crawl. Hiboy 2 gets ahead of this Razor every time. I wish this thing was powerful enough to actually go about 20 mph because it really is comfortable to ride. But for commuting medium distance, city tight navigating or just for fun โspeedโ cruising.. this comes up short. My next biggest complaint is that this has virtually no range. On flat ground youโre getting about 5 miles max; which really only lets you go 2.5 miles away if you want to make it back.My last major complaint is that it weighs a ton and doesn’t fold up. It is a pain in the *** to fit this in a small car or sedan.. but it does fit in the trunk of a 2006 Honda Civic.. barely. In summary- itโs slower, louder, heavier, not as portable, has a shorter lasting battery and a longer charging time… and is more expensive than other e-scooters on Amazon that actually go 18mph and have a much longer use time.Update – After using this scooter for months I like it more and bumped up my review to 3.5 stars. This scooter would be really great except for a few things the Hiboy 2 stand up (and I assume other clones like it) do better — Slower than advertised (only 15 MPH on flat ground for 190 LB rider) If this thing went 5 mph faster it would be perf (worth noting that while the Hiboy 2 is also not quite fast enough- it is slightly faster than the Razor )- Noisy motor- No battery percentage indicator or speedometer and a misleading low battery light.- Does not fold up. Very bulky, very difficult to fit in a car (the Hiboy 2 folds up and can easily fit in the trunk or backseat of a small car)- Very heavy- this would be almost impossible to carry up and down and into and out of an apartment in the city. (Hiboy 2 is much lighter and easily carried up stairs when folded)- Range only 4-6 miles max depending on how fast you go and how much you weigh.- Power switch not being on handles but under deck-Kick stand starts to spin after a while- even after tightening and can rub against tire.- More expensiveBetter than the Hiboy Max 2 in a few ways though- Bigger tires can handle bumps and cracks and provide a much smoother ride than the HB2- Rides surprisingly well on dry grass or dirt paths- Has a seat- Has a rack- Has a basket for rack- Can attach certain wheelbarrows to the rack and tow a good amount of weight **May not be good for motor**- Wood deck and white frame looks real nice (if you remove that Razor grip tape and all other stickers)2 Year Update – Still stand by most everything I have stated here- except that the Hiboy 2 scooter is good… The Hiboy 2 started having issues about a year after purchasing. This Razor scooter is still working well. That being said, aside from using this as utility vehicle to bring garbage cans to end of the driveway or use it as a motorized wheelbarrow.. this is a better toy for kids to ride around the block than for actual transportation or exploration. I recently purchased a “Lectric XP” e-bike for $999 that blows this Razor away speed and range wise.. can go 8+ miles at around 20 MPH on throttle alone (up to 25+ miles at lower speeds) and can easily get up to 26 MPH with minimal pedaling. The Lectric XP e-bike also folds up and can much more easily fit in the backseat of a car than the Razor. In hindsight I wish I had just bought the e-bike and never wasted money on the Hiboy or the Razor.

I ride 4 miles a day, intercity, on varied paved terrain (flat, uphill, downhill, rough, smooth, asphalt, concrete) for work with the odd jaunt thrown in now and then.I like:Battery life between charges is reasonable (every other day for me).Goes speedily on flat terrain.Coasts very well. One can stand up, or sit down, with full control.Handbrake is well placed for sitting or standing.Brakes well, plenty of stopping power.Throttle control is pretty good, can creep it up to a certain amount, or go all out.I do not like:My brakes squeak (I can fix this, but can someone else? owners manual offers no remedy).Throttle is not linear… after about 3/4 throttle… you’re at full speed, you get nothing more from 100% throttle. No shock absorption, except for wheel air pressure… which at recommended 40psi is not much. Can be hard to control on rough terrain. No mobility/initiation lockout… If parked in public, can be easily stolen

We had the original design with had a small motor and chain drive. We have a barn about 8oo feet away and use this to quietly go back and forth at least twice a day. We’ve have ridden it year around, including rain and snow and it has always performed flawlessly. After the first one lasted 8 years, and still going strong I purchased a second one. I’m 6’1″ 200 lbs. and on slight hills at does great. On flat terrain it’s ALMOST too fast. The large wheels make it very stable. I have to replace the batteries about every 2-3 years. It requires some, though minimal, mechanical skill to change the batteries but nothing over-complicated and most “battery warehouse” specialty stores replaced them too.

Bought this for my uncle as he cannot pedal his bicycle anymore. He drives it to work everyday and sometimes to a nearby mall. Average distance that he takes can be from 1-2 miles each way. He only charge it every 5 days.
